Ford leads UK auto sales
Figures released by the Society of Manufacturers and Traders have found that Ford was the most popular car retailer in the UK in May.So far this year, total Ford sales have increased by 5.3 per cent to 73,930 vehicles - its share of the current UK retail market has therefore grown to 13 per cent.
Compared to last year's figures, this rise represents an increase in sales of 3,750 units over the same period.
Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, noted: "The increase in our retail share reflects the growing appeal of our latest models to individual customers.
"Through 2008 we have continued our strategy to rebalance our business in favour of retail sales while limiting our short-cycle business."
Ford claims that its Fiesta range has been improved, as cars now come with fully customisable colour and trim in the interior and in a range of body-styles, including three-door and five-door hatchback.
