Ford installs more standard safety features
Ford has announced it is adding more standard safety features to its 2007 models in response to growing consumer demand. The US automotive giant said that as consumers place a heavier premium on car safety it is installing a number of safety features in next year's models to cater to concerned parents.
Either side air curtains or the advanced Safety Canopy system with roll-over sensor standard equipment have been installed on 14 vehicles for 2007 models. These include the Ford Edge and the Ford Expedition.
Cisco Codina, Ford group vice president, North America marketing, sales and service, said: "Making families even safer is the goal of our pledge to drive innovation in safety technology.
"That commitment and the customer focus at the heart of the Way Forward plan led us to accelerate our plans to make side airbags standard."
The Safety Canopy system has come in for particular praise and has been credited with winning the Ford Five Hundred the IIHS highest Top Safety-Gold rating for achieving the highest ratings in rear, side-impact and frontal offset crash protection.
Additional safety measures being installed for 2007 models include seat-mounted front-side air bags and AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) as standard in the Expedition and Expedition EL.
Stephen Kozak, Ford safety chief engineer, commented: "Expedition's confident handling paired with standard class-exclusive AdvanceTrac with RSC actively helps drivers prevent accidents from occurring.
"Should an accident occur, Expedition features a comprehensive package of passive safety features to help enhance safety protection."
