Ford hails Kuga's fuel economy
Ford Kuga owners can expect to experience some of the best fuel economy figures available to 4x4 drivers, according to the carmaker.Although 4x4s do not have a reputation for being particularly efficient or environmentally friendly, Ford believes the Kuga is different.
The 2.0-litre TDCi model can achieve 44.1 mpg, coupled with emissions of 169g/km, putting it in the £175 per annum car tax bracket.
Ford's vehicle dynamics supervisor Jurgen Putzschler explained that the Kuga is so efficient because it has an intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
The AWD system automatically detects when conditions require torque to be distributed to all four wheels, but generally only uses front wheel drive.
Mr Putzschler said: "The result is extremely competitive fuel consumption, coupled with remarkable traction when required."
The Ford Kuga was the best selling small 4x4 in the UK during July, helping the carmaker to maintain its position as the market-leading manufacturer.
