Ford announces price rises
Ford has announced it will be increasing its prices from the beginning of next month.The firm explained it had been forced into the move by the sustained weakness of the pound against the euro.
It revealed on average its cars would become 3.75 per cent more expensive.
Price increases will be applied to all orders received after March 31st.
Nigel Sharp, managing director of Ford in Britain, said the company had no choice but to charge customers more if it was to protect jobs and remain a viable business.
He explained the euro has strengthened by 30 per cent over the past year and a half.
Mr Sharp added: "The weakness of the pound had a huge negative impact - well into nine figures - on Ford's UK business in 2008."
In more positive news, the manufacturer's Fiesta recently drove away with a Red Dot award for outstanding design.
