Drivers urged to choose colours carefully

When buying an auto - whether from a Fiat or Ford dealership – drivers should hesitate before opting for an unusual colour, it has been claimed.

According to British Car Auctions (BCA), the shade of a vehicle can significantly affect the price owners will get for a motor when they come to trade it in.

Spokesman Tim Naylor stated: "We would certainly advise anyone going for a more exotic colour to think carefully about the resale value."

He added: "You may like Mushroom, but the next prospective owner might not."

This comes after statistics from the company showed silver has replaced blue as the most popular finish when it comes to second-hand vehicles.

Research based on figures from the first quarter of 2009 revealed 25 per cent of buyers opted for this hue.

In other news, BCA recently reported it had experienced an increase in demand for used prestige models, with one auction seeing a 2007 Bentley Continental sell for some £92,500.
