Ford's vans remain popular
The enduring popularity of the Ford Transit van has helped the automaker's commercial vehicles division to achieve its best UK sales figures for six years.Sales of the Transit, Transit Connect, Fiesta van and Ranger pick-up models totalled 56,682 during the first seven months of 2007, meaning Ford supplied a quarter of all the commercial vehicles sold in the UK during the period.
Car sales also remained strong, with the Fiesta and Fusion models accounting for 70,627 of the total 272,490 new vehicles sold by Ford so far this year.
Roelant de Waard, chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain, was delighted his company retained its "market leadership" in the UK.
"Now all eyes are on the arrival of the new 57 number plate next month and our dealerships are gearing up to satisfy demand for Ford's award-winning product range," added Mr de Waard.
Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders earlier in the week showed that the Ford Focus is the best selling car in the UK so far this year.
