Ford S-Max popularity linked to booming sales figures

Ford has highlighted the success of the new S-Max as one of the reasons it increased its share of the UK automotive sector in the first half of this year.

According to the latest industry sales figures, the blue oval claimed a 16.5 per cent market share in the opening six months of 2007, up from 16.2 per cent 12 months earlier.

Over the last year, Ford has also managed to increase its sales of multi-purpose vehicles by 350 per cent, which has been attributed to the growing popularity of both the S-Max and the new Galaxy.

Commenting on the figures, Roelant de Waard, chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain, said: "Ford has strengthened its sales position in the UK through the first half of 2007 thanks to a stream of fresh exciting models including [the] Transit, S-Max, Galaxy and revised C-Max."

Last month, Jim Cain, spokesman for the blue oval, described the speech-recognition service Sync to be included on the new Focus as a "killer app".

Explaining this, he said that the device would enable people to change tracks on an mp3 player without removing their hands from the steering wheel.
