Ford Mondeo drivers reminded about Bluetooth safety benefits
Owners of the new Ford Mondeo have had their attention drawn towards the potential road safety benefits of Bluetooth compatability.According to figures from the Home Office, cited by the blue oval, approximately 13 drivers were killed during the course of 2005 in incidents that featured a handheld mobile phone.
In addition, a further 400 were injured as a result of using the communication devices on the move.
And the new Mondeo, along with the S-Max, the Fiesta, the Fusion, the Focus, the Galaxy and the Transit, all now come equipped with Bluetooth hands-free technology to discourage motorists from taking calls on their handset.
"Our voice activation also allows Ford drivers to give spoken instructions to perform a number of different functions in the car and that means less distraction on today's busy roads," added Kevin Griffin, fleet operations director at Ford.
To counter the problem of motorists using mobiles handsets, the government introduced stricter penalties of three penalty points and a £60 fine for offenders in late February 2007.
