ESC policy wins praise for Ford
Ford's commitment to vehicle safety has won praise from a leading motoring industry organisation.Thatcham, a safety and security research centre backed by British motor insurance companies, is currently campaigning to persuade carmakers to include electronic stability control (ESC) as standard in their vehicles.
A recent report by the Department for Transport concluded that vehicles with ESC are 25 per cent less likely to be involved in a fatal collision, but just 47 per cent of new cars sold in the UK are supplied with the technology as standard.
Ford is one of the companies to have taken on board the benefits of ESC and the new Mondeo range, together with the S-MAX, Galaxy and Transit ranges all come with the safety system.
Thatcham spokesman Matthew Avery said: "Thatcham is delighted that the new Ford Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy ranges have ESC as standard. Ford is raising the bar for standard ESC fitment."
The Ford Galaxy MPV was recently named joint winner of the prestigious Which? Car 2007-08 Safety Award.
