All-new Ford Mondeo set for Paris preview

The all-new Ford Mondeo will be previewed at the Paris Motor Show, which starts on September 30th and runs for a week.

Featuring "technologically advanced" features and high quality materials, the new Mondeo will derive much of its engineering from the new S-MAX and Galaxy ranges.

Ford says it will reveal a "sporty and stylish" estate car firstly, described by the company as being a "very important" bodystyle in a competitive market.

With an expected launch in 2007, the new "striking and unmistakeable" Mondeo will replace the current Mk 3 model, which shares its basic floorplan with the original Mondeo of 1993.

Steve Adams, Ford's vehicle line director for large cars, remarked: "[The] new Mondeo will deliver premium levels of comfort in a class-leading package."

"You can also expect innovative and top-of-the-range new technology features, particularly those aimed at assisting and pampering the driver," he added.

In particular, motor show attendees will be able to see the launch of the latest Ford human machine interface, which includes a large, full colour LCD screen situated in front of the driver, controlled by the same steering wheel switches as found on the Galaxy and S-MAX.

Although due for replacement, the current Ford Mondeo still ranks among the best in its class, according to What Car? magazine.

In addition, both What Car? and Top Gear describe the car as "great to drive".
