Ka and Fiesta 'drive Ford through economic downturn'
The new Ka and Fiesta will help see Ford through the credit crunch, the manufacturer has claimed. It made these comments after recording a 0.2 per cent rise in its market share in September to 16.1 per cent for the first three quarters of 2008, despite poor sales in the car industry overall.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed Ford sold 1,843 more units than its closest rival last month.
The manufacturer puts its success down to its range of compact models.
Roelant de Waard, chairman and managing director at Ford, said the company was well-positioned to deal with the credit crunch "with a comprehensive and fresh range of attractive, fuel efficient vehicles that is being enhanced at just the right time by two all-new small car models - the Ka and the Fiesta".
Earlier this month, the manufacturer announced motorists who bought the updated Ka would be able to choose from three design packs to customise the model.
