Ford may be a good choice for downsizing motorists

Motorists planning to downsize in a bid to cut costs may want to consider a Ford model after hearing the comments of one retail group.

British Car Auctions revealed it started selling second-hand Fiestas and Kas last week, adding it was pleasantly surprised by the vehicles' performance.

The company explained the first model achieved an average selling price of 85 per cent of its original value, while the second typically sold for 80 per cent of its initial cost.

As a result, motorists buying new Fiestas and Kas may find they are able to secure good deals when the time comes for them to trade the vehicles in.

Commenting on last week's auction, BCA spokesperson Alan Gupwell said: "This high profile event marked a very successful launch for new Fiesta and Ka."

He went on to say the high prices achieved under tough economic conditions reflect the strength of the Ford brand.

Motorists who downsize to cut fuel costs may also find their car insurance bill falls, as less powerful vehicles generally qualify for cheaper cover.
