Ford increases small car sales
The number of people heading to Ford dealerships to buy small models increased last month, the manufacturer has reported.Citing figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the company revealed sales of the Ka, Fiesta and Fusion rose to within 50 units of those achieved in May 2008.
The firm put part of the success down to the introduction of the government's cash for bangers incentive.
Managing director Nigel Sharp said: "We hope this scrappage scheme will boost sales of new vehicles and, in doing so, help secure jobs at Ford and our dealer partners - and assist the environment."
The number of the manufacturer's cars with CO2 emissions of under 120 g/km sold in May increased by 57 per cent.
Mr Sharp claimed it was early days for the scrappage scheme but added the firm was feeling optimistic.
