Ford highlights Bluetooth functions on Fusion and other models

Ford has highlighted its installation of Bluetooth hands-free equipment to help motorists take calls while on the move.

Automatic activation devices are fitted on the Fusion, Focus, Mondeo, Galaxy, S-Max and Fiesta models, among others produced by the American automotive giant.

Any incoming calls on a Bluetooth-enabled handset are automatically diverted to the vehicle's speakers, while any CD or radio noise is temporarily muted to allow the driver to take the call.

It is thought that use of the device may reduce the likelihood of being involved in an accident, since it does not necessitate taking a hand off the wheel or gearstick.

However, the automaker has stressed that it has additional benefits as well.

"Working alongside Bluetooth, voice activation also enables Ford drivers to give spoken instructions to perform a number of different functions in the car," said Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain's chairman and managing director.

Many new mobile handsets bought this Christmas will have Bluetooth capability as standard and consequently many motorists may be looking to find a car that takes advantage of the wireless connection system.
