MPG Marathon may inspire motorists to visit Ford dealerships

Drivers looking for an auto that combines excellent performance with great fuel economy may be inspired to visit their local Ford dealership after an upcoming event in the UK.

The 2009 MPG Marathon will feature the manufacturer's fastest-ever European production motor - the 2.5-litre Focus RS.

Due to take place on September 30th and October 1st, the event is designed to show how eco-driving techniques can maximise fuel efficiency.

Automotive journalist Jeremy Walton will take the wheel of the Focus RS, along with teammate Alyson Marlow.

Mr Walton explained what he hoped to get out of the challenge.

"I'm setting out to prove you can use an efficient high-performance car in daily driving without enormous fuel bills," he stated.

Meanwhile, a Chevrolet Aveo will also be taking part in the event.

The manufacturer announced this week that the car will be driven by 17-year-old Joe Durkin from Falmouth in Cornwall.
