Ford Focus overcomes icy conditions to win in Swedish WRC event
The durability of the Ford Focus family car has again been underlined as it powered to victory during an ice-packed World Rally Championship (WRC) event.Driving the Ford Focus RS, Finnish team mates Marcus Gronholm and Timo Rautiainen overcame adverse weather conditions to win 11 of the 20 speed tests at the Swedish rally.
Frozen roads and snowdrifts were common throughout, but the final day proved particularly testing as temperatures fell to -22 degrees C.
And Gronholm sought to underline the extreme weather conditions facing the Focus team at the final hurdle.
"The only real problem this weekend was the temperature this morning," he said.
"Even with foot warmers, my feet were so cold it was hard to push the pedals."
The Ford Focus won the WRC manufacturer's championship title in 2006.
With two races having taken place so far this year, Ford is one point behind the Citroen team in the manufacturer's standings.
