Ford Focus newcomer 'may offer cheaper car insurance than the ST'

Motorists who want a high-performance family car without a huge car insurance bill may like to know that Ford is planning a new variant of the Focus ST model, according to a report.

Automotive publication Auto Express has claimed that it is privy to insider information that the American automaker will introduce a new two-litre variant of the racy car into Ford car dealerships this summer.

Although it is not expected to be turbocharged like the existing Focus ST, the model will still be able to accelerate from a standing start to 60 mph in less than ten seconds.

Meanwhile, the engine downgrade may make it more a more appealing prospect to car insurance companies.

However, Dan Strong, automotive journalist at the magazine, has stressed that the engine change will not be the only difference between Ford's current ST and the newcomer.

"The new car will have uniquely-styled alloy wheels and it won't feature the silver gills, which sit on the front wings of the turbocharged version," he wrote.

"Inside, it's unlikely to have the dash-mounted instrument display."

As well as the Focus, Ford car dealerships typically offer a wide range of other vehicles from the blue opal such as the Fiesta supermini, the Mondeo family car and the C-Max multi-purpose vehicle.
