Ford Focus Flexible Fuel Vehicle's eco-friendly motor highlighted

The green credentials of the Ford Focus Flexible Fuel Vehicle have again been underlined, in news that may be of interest to motorists looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

This week, it was revealed that Essex County Council had taken delivery of one of the new breed of vehicles and was testing it as part of a concerted effort to become more eco-friendly.

Using a specially-designed engine, the Focus FFV can run on petrol or bioethanol in any combination in the fuel tank.

Andy Taylor, Ford's European sustainability director, explained what sets bioethanol apart from traditional fuels.

"Bioethanol motoring goes a lot further towards reducing carbon emissions," he said.

"The CO2 absorbed by crops grown to make bioethanol cancels out up to 70 per cent of the car emissions."

Earlier this week, Ford confirmed that its flexible-fuel Focus will make an appearance at the Sexy Green Car Show, which runs at the Eden Project in Cornwall between March 30th and April 15th 2007.
