Focus delivery 'highlights Ford's commitment to green issues'

Ford recently announced the delivery of its 150th Ford Focus Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) in Britain.

The vehicle, which can run on bioethanol produced from sugar beet and wheat if required, was handed over to the National Farmers' Union.

The significance of the union's backing to the Ford car cannot be underestimated, Ford's European sustainability director Andy Taylor explained.

"Winning the farmers' backing in our campaign for further recognition of bioethanol as a renewable transport fuel is an important step," he said.

"We look forward to working with more farmers and others in the agricultural sector to drive forward bioethanol motoring."

The various models of the Ford car cost around £14,000 from a Ford car dealership; the same price as traditionally fuelled Focuses.

Moreover, they can be powered by any combination of ethanol and petrol.

Bioethanol E85 pumps, which contain 85 per cent bioethanol and 15 per cent petrol, are currently located in Suffolk, Somerset, Derbyshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and south Wales.
