January may have been a busy month for Ford

Ford dealerships across the UK may have been busy last month, new figures have suggested.

Statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed the Fiesta was the most popular modal among British car buyers in January.

Despite widespread reports of falling vehicle sales, the number of Fiestas registered last month was up 28.3 per cent compared with the same period in 2008.

Ford also claimed its Galaxy, Ka and Focus models had performed well.

Managing director Nigel Sharp said: "New Ford Ka arrived last month, joining Fiesta to offer the combination of style, value and economy which private buyers are looking for more than ever."

As well as proving popular the public, the Fiesta also ticked the right boxes for critics - with What Car? magazine naming the models its Car of the Year 2009.

Meanwhile, Cleangreencars.co.uk recently said the Fiesta ECOnetic was the greenest family car available to UK buyers.
