Ford Fiesta named car of the year
The new Ford Fiesta has been named the What Car? model of the year 2009.According to the competition judges, no other supermini can rival the vehicle's "look at me" factor.
They also described the car's appearance as "stylish" and "modern", adding the model was a "brilliant winner".
Commenting on the winning vehicle, Steve Fowler, editor of What Car?, said: "It's practical enough to be used as a family car, fun enough to be used as a sports car and stylish enough to make the right impression."
He pointed out the Fiesta is also affordable, environmentally-friendly and cheap to run.
In addition to its supermini success, Ford also claimed victory in the estate and family car categories - with the Mondeo coming out on top in both.
In related news, Business Secretary Peter Mandelson recently visited the carmaker's Bridgend plant where the engines for the Fiesta and Focus models are made.
