Ford Fiesta is best-selling car in September
The Ford Fiesta has displaced the Focus as the best-selling car in the UK, according to recently released figures.September saw the introduction of the new 56 vehicle registration plates, apparently prompting motorists to buy more Fiestas than any other vehicle.
According to the list of new car registrations from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, drivers bought 21,793 new Fiestas in September and 17,999 Focuses.
In total then, Ford has sold over 70,000 vehicles in September, which equates to a 15 per cent share of the total market.
"The greater proportion of private sales within a bigger overall share of the UK vehicle market is a significant double whammy for Ford," said Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain's chairman and managing director.
"We are increasing profitability and market share in tandem - a trend which we are determined to continue with the introduction of further new models."
Behind General Motors and Toyota, Ford is the world's third largest manufacturer of automobiles.
