Ford Fiesta engine plant receives green award

Ford's commitment towards improving its eco-friendly credentials with the new Fiesta has been independently recognised.

This week, it has been revealed that judges for green campaign group the Business Commitment to the Environment have singled out the blue oval's 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engine production facilities in Dagenham for praise with a Premier award.

Among the initiatives undertaken at the east London manufacturing plant, there are schemes in place to boost fluid recycling, improve the efficiency of coolant systems and derive more energy from renewable wind turbines.

After handing out the gong to Ford's technical specialist Stuart Burn, environment minister David Miliband said that the launch of the new engine lines has been an "all-round success story".

"Ford Fiesta models powered by these units emit under 120 grams of CO2/km and production of the engines themselves minimises the cars' overall environmental impact," he added.

Ford is the world's third largest automaker behind Toyota and General Motors.

As well as the Fiesta, the blue oval also supplies ranges such as the Focus, the Fusion, the C-Max and the S-Max to Ford car dealerships across the UK.
