Fiesta scoops design award

The number of car buyers in the UK visiting Ford dealerships may increase after the company's success at a recent competition.

Based in Germany, the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen Red Dot event honours a range of products judged to be style leaders in their field.

This year's competition saw 3,231 entries across 17 categories and the Fiesta received an accolade for its outstanding design.

Participants are assessed for their innovation, functionality and innovation, among other things.

Commenting on the Fiesta's success, Martin Smith from Ford said this type of award is valued especially highly by the group.

"Research shows that whether they are in Milan, Beijing or New York, customers put style at the top of their list," he stated.

The latest version of the Fiesta was launched in the UK last August.

In other news, Ford enjoyed some more success this month when it was named the top manufacturer of 2009 by readers of Fleet News.
