Fiesta 'one of Britain's most popular motors'
The Ford Fiesta has been named as one of the top ten most popular motors in the UK.According to the Orange Cars channel, the model is the second highest-selling since 1965.
In the past 44 years, some 3,510,584 examples of the vehicle have been bought in Britain.
Meanwhile, the most popular model is the Ford Escort, with 4,105,192 units sold.
The Orange Cars channel described the Fiesta as being "recession-proof", pointing out it has continued to sell well through the three severe economic downturns it has witnessed since its launch in 1976.
The latest version of the car has been top of the sales chart in the UK every month since its release in October 2008.
Nigel Sharp, Ford Britain managing director, said: "All-new Fiesta is leading the small car heartland which is so much in the spotlight in this climate."
In January, the model drove away with the What Car? Car of the Year 2009 award.
