Fiesta 'attracting scrappage scheme customers into Ford dealerships'

The number of motorists heading to their local Ford dealerships and driving away in Fiestas may have increased as a direct result of the scrappage scheme, if the latest comments from the manufacturer are anything to go by.

According to the group, its best-selling supermini has been proving extremely popular with people taking part in the cash for bangers initiative.

The company claimed it has seen sales boosted as a result of the programme, with small models doing particularly well.

After the Fiesta, the Ka has been the second bestselling vehicle under the scheme.

Managing director Nigel Sharp commented: "Ford has taken a healthy share of scrappage business considering the limited number of models we have in the budget area, which represents the vast majority of these sales."

Since the initiative was launched in May, the firm has sold in excess of 12,000 vehicles to participants in the programme.

In other news, the Ford S-Max was one of the autos honoured at the latest Towcar Awards.
