For the first time in nearly 20 years Australian buyers will be able to walk into a showroom and buy a Fiat, as the Italian manufacturer storms back into the Australian market.
Re-launching with its Fiat Punto model, nearly 20 dealerships across Australia will offer a range of Fiat models intended to bring something different to the Australian car market.
Fiat intends to re-launch initially with the Punto, but will rapidly expand this offering over the next 18 months as the full range of Fiat models is added to its line-up.
The Italian firm's cars will initially be sold via Alfa Romeo's showrooms, although Fiat intends to open Fiat-specific dealerships at some point.
Fiat commercial vehicles however, which have built quite a reputation in Australia for their reliability, will continue to be handled via their own specialist dealer group.
Fullboost quoted David Stone, general manager for Fiat Cars in Australia, saying: "The return of Fiat to Australia has been a long time in coming and we have put a lot of work into making sure that everything is right for Fiat in Australia.
"We wanted to make sure that we had exactly the right car, at the right price and with the right equipment. With Punto, we have ticked all the boxes!"
And coming with a five star Euro-NCAP safety rating, twin mode power steering, trip computer ABS brakes, AirCon, electric windows and cruise control standard across the range, the Fiat Punto is expected to be a major seller.
