Fiat 'ahead of the pack on CO2 savings'

Motor manufacturer Fiat has been found to be top of the league when it comes to low carbon emissions in its vehicles.

According to figures from Clean Green Cars, its average tailpipe CO2 is 138.2g per kilometre, which is ahead of closest rival Mini with 139.6g.

Next in the line-up come Peugeot (141.4g), Toyota (146.3g) and Citroen (146.3g), while at the bottom of the pile are Jeep (218.7g), Land Rover (249.2g) and Porsche (275.6g), the company added.

Jay Nagley from Clean Green Cars remarked that motor manufacturers are having to deal with consumer pressures to be more environmentally-friendly.

"Some manufacturers have delivered on their promise [to cut emissions], but the vast majority have to raise their game significantly," said the official.

This comes as research from British Car Auctions has revealed that the credit crunch could be having a positive effect on the number of people investing in alternative fuels.
