Fiat experiences 16.9% sales rise in Europe
Fiat led an increase in European car sales during the course of 2006, new figures have revealed.Particularly strong sales were witnessed in Germany and Italy, but Fiat sold 1.15 million cars across Europe – a 16.9 per cent rise on 2005, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.
Vehicles included in the Fiat marque include the Panda and the Punto, sales of which helped the manufacturer make the biggest gain in European sales year-on-year.
By means of comparison, the figures show that PSA Peugeot Citroen sales totalled 2.02 million, despite the sales results suggesting that the car-buyer market in its home country France was slower in 2006.
Last week, it was revealed that the Fiat Grande Punto had grown in popularity among younger motorists in the UK.
The Italian carmaker suggested that they sold close to 60,000 vehicles in 2006.
