Fiat Grande Punto Arbath 'set to showcase racing credentials'

Motorists looking for a taste of racing performance from their supermini have been alerted to news of a forthcoming variant of the Fiat Grande Punto range.

The new Grande Punto Arbath is expected to go onsale at Fiat car dealerships across the UK in late 2007 for around £15,000, reports Auto Express.

One of its main selling points will apparently be its high level of performance, since its twin-turbo engine is expected to boast more than 200 bhp and accelerate to 60 mph from a standing start in seven seconds flat.

Moreover, automotive journalist Ross Pinnock has highlighted its aesthetic similarities to Fiat's competitive racing line-up.

"The look of the newcomer will be heavily influenced by the rally car, which won this year's European championship," he said.

"Competition-style features include a roof-mounted air intake and a wider track for improved handling."

Late last year, the Grande Punto dominated Fiat's display stand at the Istanbul Autoshow, with three separate models appearing before Turkish car enthusiasts.
