Popular Fiat models 'have boosted used car sales'
The quality of models such as the Grande Punto helped Fiat increase the number of used cars sold in 2008, it has been suggested.New figures from the manufacturer revealed it shifted 42 per cent more second-hand vehicles to dealers and trade buyers in 2008 than during 2007.
The company also claimed models like the Grande Punto were regularly fetching £1,200 above their guide price.
Remarketing manager Simon Wheeler stated: "That's a sign of a car the public really wants and testimony to the Fiat brand growing in strength in the current UK market."
The manufacturer also attributed the increase in second-hand vehicle sales to a four-fold rise in online purchases through its online remarketing portal and changes made to its auction programme.
It predicted it would continue to build on its success in 2009, as the number of used cars purchased in January and February was 150 per cent up on the same months in 2008.
Meanwhile, ten Fiat dealerships in London are currently trialling a new test drive that advises motorists on how they can cut their carbon dioxide emissions.
