Fiat Croma - safety first

Motorists looking for a focus on safety should look no further than the Fiat Croma.

The car has a maximum five-star rating in the European New Car Assessment Program crash safety tests, a title that places people with families' minds at rest.

In fact, the entire car was designed with every type of accident possible taken into consideration. Head-on, side-on, overturning, rear collisions, fire and fall were all taken into account during the design phases.

The Fiat team also analysed the different speeds at which impacts occur taking into account different types of obstacles and the protection of passengers in the car.

Major safety features include two dual stage frontal airbags, two front sidebags, two window bags and a kneebag for the driver. There are also rear sidebags as an optional extra.

Front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters are also standard as is the anti-whiplash system on the front head restraints.

Technically, the car offers ABS anti-lock braking with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) and ESP (electronic stability program). This ESP system cuts in when the car is close to the limit of adhesion (sticking to the road) and helps the driver regain control.

And for those of us that hate hill starts, depending on the type of ESP system there is even a Hill Holder, making hill starts a breeze.
