Fiat Bravo 'one of 23 model launches by 2010'

Fiat is aiming to get 23 new vehicle models into the production stage by the end of the decade, according to plans set out by chief executive Sergio Marchionne.

The commitment means that the Fiat Bravo, due to launch in January, will be the first of a series of new model launches from the Italian automaker, which it is hoped will be completed by 2010.

Mr Marchionne has also indicated that he wishes the company to increase its market penetration, moving from its present 7.6 per cent share of the west European automotive market to around 11 per cent.

Over the same period, he said that Fiat should aim to use the new models as part of a strategy to boost sales from two million to 2.8 million per year.

"It is an ambitious plan, but there is nothing in it that I don't believe is generally within our reach," he explained.

The new Bravo, which represents the next generation of the family car brand, will be the first Fiat vehicle to carry the company's redesigned badge.
