Artistically-enhanced Fiat rakes in £42,000 for charity

Some £42,000 has been raised for charity following the sale of a car with bodywork designed by Tracey Emin.

The Fiat 500 supermini - dubbed mouse car by the artist - was sold at auction in order to raise money for schools in Uganda.

It is now hoped that the money will help to make a significant contribution to the PEAS charity, which aims to construct libraries in the country.

Designed to take Emin's work "quite literally out of the gallery and on to the street", the artist stated that the project was an enjoyable one.

Previous work from Emin includes the controversial My Bed - the 1999 Turner Prize exhibition which showcased her untidy bed surrounded by bloody underwear and unused condoms.

Meanwhile, those looking to get their hands on a regular Fiat 500 will have to wait until January 2008.
