Citroen has unveiled its brand new concept car, the C-AirPlay, at this year's Bologna Motor Show. The car, which was thought-up by British car designer Mark Lloyd, is according to the manufacturer, a "fresh urban run-around" featuring a "bold, dynamic exterior look" as well as plenty of "ultra-modern styling cues". But we've heard all this before. So what did Citroen achieve with the 'glass bubble' which the C-AirPlay actually looks like? Well of course being a concept car, it's going to look odd and there is no definite guarantee you're going to see the C-AirPlay roaming around your local streets. But it is a sure bet that Citroen will use this car as a benchmark to implement some of its features into its models to come. The two-seater C-AirPlay has unique portholes in its side doors that allow the passenger and driver to see the road pass by underneath them. This is meant to add to the concept of speed, the manufacturer claims, but in reality it's just a nice way of covering that the car really doesn't go very fast. The car is tiny, measuring 330 centimetres long and is less than 170 centimetres wide, but the removable glass roof gives the car a feeling of spaciousness. It does have a 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine and the SensoDrive gearbox means gearchanges can be made via the steering wheel-mounted paddles. One fantastic concept is the "stop start" technology built into the engine. When the car is idling in traffic the engine shuts itself off saving fuel. Touch sensitive controls are built into the dashboard and passengers sit on a one-piece silicon bench seat giving more bottom room but no armrest. As a whole the car may be a little 'out of this world' at the moment, but the concept of a removable glass roof and steering wheel gear changes, may not be too far off for Citroen mainstream models.
