Citroen has won yet another accolade after being declared winner of the Vehicle Manufacturer Safety Award in the Brake Fleet Safety Forum Awards for Excellence. The French manufacturer's recently launched C6 model was singled out for particular praise by judges for its ground-breaking Active Bonnet system, which pops up and away from the engine block in the event of pedestrian impact. Other features identified for praise were the lane departure warning system, a head-up display, nine airbags, active head restraints, directional headlamps, abs with electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency braking assistance. It is also the first car ever to achieve the maximum Euro NCAP ratings for both adult occupant protection and pedestrian safety. Brake's head of education, Jools Townsend, said: "Brake believes vehicle manufacturers have a responsibility to continually research and develop innovations to help make our roads safer for everyone. "We also believe that fleet operators have a responsibility to choose the safest possible vehicles for the sake of their drivers and the communities in which they operate. For these reasons we were delighted to honour Citroen and in particular its groundbreaking C6." Citroen's other models also received glowing reports from the judges. The Citroen C4 won four-stars from Euro NCAP for child protection and five stars for adult occupant safety. The C5 meanwhile is the highest scoring model in its class, while all four superminis and the C8 also scored highly.
