French car company PSA Peugeot Citroen, has announced its plans to build a facility in France dedicated to building upmarket cars of different designs on the same production platform.
Under the plans, the Rennes factory in western France will be transformed to construct models including the new Citroen C6 and the coupe version of the Peugeot 407 on the same line.
According to the company, the €185 million investment will help speed up model launches and control costs.
The new Citroen C6 will hit the market next month with direct competition from Audi, BBMW, Mercedes and Jaguar, but should give the other upmarket cars a run for their money by boasting the latest cutting edge technology and a look to stir the emotions.
The company expects to sell around 1,700 C6's in Britain over the coming year, at a starting price of around £28,073 and ranging to around £38,000 for the C6 Lignage.
The vehicle itself can be described as an executive saloon combining, elegance, sophistication and road presence with the classic heritage of the early Citroens.
Packed full of technology and uniquely designed to increase safety for the driver, the car contains a head-up display, keeping the drivers eyes near the road by projecting speed and destinations onto the windscreen.
Active suspension with variable damping, a lane departure warning system, directional headlamps to improve vision and of course the new 208 bhp V6 Hdi diesel engine to improve performance, are all included.
The front end has quite a long overhang but a short back end counteracts the length and continues the flow of the vehicle and its curvaceous style. The length is in keeping with a coupe and allows drivers a perfect luxury city car with maximum space inside.
When travelling at speed, an air deflector is deployed from the rear boot of the vehicle to add to its curvy aerodynamic properties.
Overall, the C6 will stand-alone ahead of its competitors, with the investment made by Citroen seemingly well invested
