Children named as big road distractions

New research has seen drivers single out children as their biggest distraction when they are on the road.

According to motor manufacturer Citroen, 90 per cent of the 1,000 people polled by the firm cited kids as their number one reason for losing concentration on highways.

The firms added that some 25 per cent said that they had been in an accident as a result, of unruly children while ten per cent claimed that fighting and screaming in the back seat was a regular occurrence.

"It is essential that drivers ensure children are securely strapped in before setting off and that they have something to keep them occupied," Jools Townsend, head of education for road safety charity Brake commented to Crash.net.

This comes as Devon 24 states that inconsiderate motorists are risking the lives of young people in the area by parking in an unsafe manner.
