The new Citroen C6 is due to go on sale in the UK in April 2006, combining the past successes of its predecessors the DS, CX and SM into one package. Citroen's new C6 has impressed critics so far, echoing back to former models with its smooth low-cut lines similar to the DS and concave rear windows reflecting parts of the CX but the new model is entirely its own car. Innovative safety features also borrow from other makes, with the pedestrian impact legislation met in Jaguar XK-style with the back of the bonnet popping up the instant the C6 senses impact via sensors in the front bumper. The space created between the bonnet and the engine therefore reduces the potential for injury. Citroen's latest luxury model features 2,720cc, V6 cylinders, 24 valves with twin-turbo diesel and provides 208bhp. Its six-speed gearbox and front wheel drive allow a smooth and quiet drive typical of the plush Citroen design. Compared to the C6, the Mercedes-Benz E280 CDI although not as new as the Citroen is still £2,500 more expensive and comes equipped with rather snatchy electronic brakes. The C6 on the other hand has dismissed the snatch of the old DS's brakes, replacing them with a smooth and progressive action. Citroen's new offering fits it well in the £30,000 luxury car range, sitting alongside the Jaguar S-Type as two of the most highly rated of their class.
