Citroen has announced a new engine that it claims will appeal to motorists looking for a nippy C5 that does not feature high levels of vehicle emissions.
The top-of-the-range 2.2 HDi 173 hp diesel engine can be equipped on part of the Citroen C5 range, enabling the hatchback version to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds.
Moreover, the hatchback can reach a top speed of 138 mph, making it one of the fastest vehicles in the standard C5 range.
Drivers have also been told that resultant toxic emissions may be partially counterbalanced by Citroen's green technology innovations.
The diesel particulate filter system aims to reduce emissions by burning off harmful particles before they can escape the vehicle, potentially making the C5 more attractive to environmentally-conscious drivers.
This 2.2 HDi engine is available on both the VTX+ and Exclusive specifications for the C5, with prices starting at £17,790.
First produced in 2001, variations of the Citroen C5 have been available to motorists around the world for the last five years.
