Citroen C4 named 'most economical hatchback'
The Citroen C4 Coupe 1.6 HDi is the most economical hatchback on Britain's roads, according to a new report.Researchers from Auto Express staged tests to identify Britain's least thirsty motors after the Department for Transport launched an initiative to encourage the country's drivers to purchase more fuel efficient cars.
The magazine's testers examined the performance of cars on public roads to come up with their rankings, allowing them to take into account factors such as weather and traffic conditions.
Citroen's C4 Coupe 1.6 HDi came out on top in the hatchback sector, with fuel economy of 49.6 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 129 g/km.
Also featuring in the sector top ten were the Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi, which achieved 47.8 mpg, and the Kia cee'd 1.6 CRDi with its 41.6 mpg fuel economy figure.
London mayor Ken Livingstone recently unveiled a proposal to make vehicles with emissions of 120 g/km or less exempt from the congestion charge, which would benefit owners of 23 models in the Citroen 1, 2, 3 and 4 ranges.
