Citroen C4 claims top two spots at WRC

Motorists who want sporty performance from their small family cars have had their attention drawn to news of a triumph by the Citroen C4 in the first round of the World Rally Championship (WRC).

Despite the fact that the Monte Carlo leg marked the rally debut of the C4, the Citroen team still managed to take both first and second place.

Sebastien Loeb, triple world rally champion, took the top spot after leading from the start amd was followed home by team-mate Dan Sordo in a race that underlines the ability of the C4 to cope with wet road surfaces.

Commenting on his win, Loeb said: "It's nice to have won in Monte Carlo for a fourth time and we couldn't have dreamed for a better start to the season.

"To have finished first and second will be a huge morale booster for the team."

Citroen's special-edition rally model shares its name with the new C4 Picasso multi-purpose vehicle.

Last month, in a review for automotive website Car Keys, motoring journalist David Finlay sought to reassure buyers that Citroen had not sacrificed performance for increased space by pointing out that it can reach a maximum speed of 112 mph.
