Citroen drivers are set to benefit more than most from chancellor Gordon Brown's Budget 2006 speech. Mr Brown has outlined changes to vehicle excise duty (VED), which favours drivers and manufacturers of environmentally friendly cars. Citroen drivers in C1, C2 and C3 fall into the B and C bands, meaning more than two-thirds of Citroen drivers will enjoy an annual reduction in VED of £35 and £5 respectively. Citroen UK's managing director, Xavier Duchemin, said: "Many Citroen owners will be better off because of the changes in the Budget, and this further justifies our fundamental commitment to developing economical and environmentally friendly cars." He claimed: "Citroen cars are amongst the best for low CO2 emissions." Indeed, Citroen's C1, C2 and C3 models are some of the most economical and cleanest diesel vehicles on the market, all achieving more than 65mpg in official tests. Citroen is also pioneering innovative technologies for economical engineering in its cars, including the Stop and Start system and diesel particulate filters.
