Citroen C3 set for 2008 makeover
Citroen plans to radically makeover its popular C3 model in 2008, according to top-secret information acquired by Auto Express magazine.Inspired by the C-Buggy concept first showcased at the Madrid Motor Show in 2005, the new supermini-MPV-style car was initially believed to be a new model to fit between the C2 and C3 ranges.
However, Auto Express magazine has since learned that the new vehicle will instead be a direct replacement for the existing C3, permitting Citroen to compete in the niche five-door market without needing to develop an entirely new model.
The new car has been designed to take on more established rivals such as the Honda Jazz, Renault Modus and the Ford Fiesta-based B-MAX, having been based on the same platform as the new Peugeot 207.
It will be powered by the latest available Citroen engines, including the 1.6-litre petrol which is also used in the next-generation Mini. Other powerplants however will be shared with the existing C2 and C3 models.
There is also a choice of three gearboxes, with Sensodrive, clutchless and fully-automatic transmission.
Internally the new five-seat C3 has been filled with a range of space-saving measures, including a split tailgate to permit easier access to the loading area.
The dashboard meanwhile will combine elements of the C4, C3 and C2 models, with bright colours and centrally mounted dials employed throughout.
Prices are yet to be finalised but the new C3 is expected to be priced in the £9,000 range for the basic model.
The new C3 is expected to make its international debut at one of the motor shows in 2007, with its official launch anticipated some time in 2008.
