Citroen is offering to pay for the London congestion charge for its customers when they buy its C2 stop-start model. The new C2, which is the latest fuel economic vehicle to hit the UK, minimises exhaust gases by turning off its engine when stationary. However, Citroen is fuming that the C2 model has not been made exempt from the congestion charges along with the likes of the much more expensive Toyota Prius. And so, the French car manufacturer is pledging to supply the congestion charge of £8 per day for 212 days the average working year according to Citroen in order to compensate. Although the C2 pushes all the buttons in terms of fuel economy, meeting the criteria for its low carbon dioxide emissions and good fuel economy, the Energy Saving Trust (EST) has not allowed the petrol-driven car to be exempt from the tax as the scheme's spirit was to use alternative fuel sources. Nevertheless, the C2 has been widely praised for its fuel economy as well as its good value for money. So with Citroen offering to stump up the cash for the congestion charge as well, the C2 - £7,000 cheaper than the Toyota now looks the better bet.
