Motorists looking for an environmentally-friendly drive that also gives their wallet a boost have been alerted to news that all Citroen C1 owners could become exempt from the London congestion charges.
Under plans set out by London mayor Ken Livingstone, all vehicles with high levels of CO2 emissions could be penalised with heavier congestion charges in the capital.
However, Mr Livingstone has also proposed raising the threshold for vehicle exemption from the congestion charge to 120 g per km.
If implemented, this revision means that all seven versions of the C1 city car will be classified in bands A and B, so owners will no longer need to pay the fee.
Other Citroen models that would qualify for exemption include all diesel C2s and C3s, which may appeal to motorists who decide that they need more luggage capacity than is available in a city car.
Ken Livingstone was appointed mayor of London in May 2000, after being voted in as an independent candidate.
