Citroen VP honoured for environmental contribution

Gilles Michel, executive vice president of Citroen, has been honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award 2008 from European Greenfleet.

He was given the prize at the World Environment Day in Brussels, where private and public organisations were recognised for their contributions to reducing the impact of cars on the environment.

Mr Michel introduced the Stop and Start system in the Citroen C2 and Citroen C3 models which stops the car engine when stationary, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 15 per cent.

Citroen also boast 24 models with CO2 emissions under 120g per km, one of the most notable of which is the C1 city car, which emits only 108g per km.

The company will soon be releasing the Citroen C-Cactus, which will be made from recycled materials and features a diesel hybrid engine.

In addition to the Stop and Start system, the new Citroens can also feature innovations such as the use of biodiesel fuel and the Electronic Gearbox System.
