Chevrolet has postponed the launch of the new Captiva after experiencing several production issues, What Car? has reported.
The car manufacturer, owned by General Motors, has run into difficulties producing the right hand drive versions of its 4x4 Captiva, delaying the car's launch from this year to some point in Spring 2007.
Available as either a five or a seven-seater, the new Captiva is based on the same platform as the new Vauxhall Antara, which has been delayed for the same reason.
Meanwhile, General Motors has revealed that the new Chevrolet Captiva will be manufactured at a plant in St Petersburg, Russia.
The plant is due to go into full production at some point in 2008, manufacturing some 25,000 units per year.
In addition to the Chevrolet captive, the new plant will also produce the next generation of compact cars from CKD kits.
General Motors chairman and chief executive Rick Wagoner, said: "This project clearly demonstrates our commitment to Russia as one of the world's fastest growing auto markets.
"With the addition of this new, wholly-owned facility, GM and its partners will be able to assemble more than 100,000 cars a year in Russia."
Chevrolet is the top-selling car brand in Russia, with more than 35,000 sold in the first five months of 2006 and more than 11,000 registrations in May alone.
