US carmaker Chevrolet has unveiled photographs of its new compact SUV for the European market.
The vehicle, which makes its world debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March, will be the first diesel powered Chevrolet SUV specifically designed for Europe.
Dubbed Captiva, the car will be available as a five or seven-seater model and features optional active-on-demand, all-wheel drive system. The vehicle comes fitted with a new two-litre, 150 hp, common-rail direct-injection diesel engine and the design is similar to the S3X concept, which debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show.
The Captiva turbodiesel is tailored to European customer requirements. Chevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors, claims that like the petrol version, it offers "an optimised combination of performance with excellent economy".
The new SUV is also the first Chevrolet model released in Europe with an electronic stability program (ESP). The spacious vehicle has been fitted with high quality fabrics and materials and measures 4.6m long, 1.8m wide and 1.7m high, with a wheelbase of 2.7m.
Andy Carroll, Chevrolet UK managing director, said: "Captiva is big news for the customer who is looking for great looks, great value, great practicality and authenticity from the brand that introduced the very first SUV back in 1935."
The Captiva turbodiesel will be available in UK showrooms in August. Full specification and price information will be released in Geneva on March 1st 2006.
