Chevrolet has sought to graphically illustrate the implications of losing coins down the back of the seats, car buyers may be interested to know.
According to a survey of 1,200 people from the US automaker, 12 per cent of respondents admitted they had lost coins in their own car.
This translates into a total of £7.8 million - a sufficient sum to buy 1,200 new Chevrolet Matiz vehicles, it is claimed.
Meanwhile, it has also been suggested that two-fifths of all pennies issued to consumers are now misplaced.
"In an expensive world where every penny counts, it's surprising so much money is currently unaccounted for," said Les Turton of Chevrolet.
Like Vauxhall and Opel, Chevrolet is owned by GM Motors, the world's largest car manufacturer.
As well as the Matiz, the marque also produces a host of other vehicles including the Tacuma, the Lacetti, the Captiva and the Kalos.
